The massive magnitude-9 earthquake that occurred near the northeastern coast of Japan on the afternoon of March 11 has helped us realize the power of modern media. Thanks to television, the Internet and mobile phones, the world has witnessed virtually firsthand the extensive -- and severe -- damage caused by nature. The extremely destructive tsunami, triggered by the earthquake, devastated cities and villacles and swallowed uo the earth and manv lives.
