Entitled as "Japan's Kafka",Abekobo is considered as one of the most famous authors around the world. In his works a complicated subconsciousness of "no homeland" is exposed, which is generated from the fact that he was born far away from his homeland. As a result, the ideas of "being abandoned by homeland" and "returning back to homeland" keep struggling in his mind, and accordingly they show in his writings. This thesis analyzes some of his early works and The Woman in the Dunes,as an attempt to reveal the importance of the image "homeland" in its symbolic and realistic meanings.
