Objective To investigate the status of blood pressure and related factors of hypertension in Chinese cardiovascular physicians. Methods Participants were from departments of cardiology of 386 general hospitals which were all members of Chinese Medical Doctor Association in 31 provinces and municipalities in China's Mainland between 1 June 2008 and 31 August 2008. 4 032 cardiovascular-certified physicians were recruited and took blood pressure test and related factors investigated. Results The prevalence of hypertension in selected Chinese cardiovascular physicians was 12.1%,16.0% for men was higher than 8.1% for women (P0.01);The prevalence of pre-hypertension was 51.5%,62.6% for men and 40.0% for women (P0.01). For prevalence of hypertension among regions, no significant difference was found, but the prevalence of prehypertension were significantly different among regions (P0.01). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that TC, BMI, gender and age were potential risk factors for prehypertension(P0.05). BMI, FPG, smoking and age might be risk factors for hypertension (P0.01). Conclusion The detection rate of hypertension in Chinese cardiovascular physicians was lower than the prevalence rate in general population, but the detection rate of prehypertension was relatively high, which should be paid enough attention, and the hypertension prevention should be strengthened in this population.
