油火焰监视器检测油火焰根部的闪烁火焰信号，忽视其它固态物质的热辐射．微波火焰监视器测量一束微波通过炉膛火焰时的衰减，原因是电磁波的电场则加速火焰中的自由电子，而使电磁波本身的能量受到衰减．
The oil flame mointor detects the flickering signals towards the root of the oil flame,ignoring steady state radiation from hot refractory.The microwave flame monitor measures the attenuation of a beam of microwaves passing through the furnace/flame.The attenuation arises because the electric field in the microwave beam accelerates free electrons in the flame which then makes energy dissipate.
