F.O＇Connor is acclaimed as the great southern writer in post-WWII America,and the grotesque in her fiction has been the focus of attention in her criticism.Unlike the previous criticisms that regard her grotesque as strange world of the gothic,this paper attempts to prove O＇Connor＇s carnivalized grotesque by analyzing the characterization in three aspects： double,parodying doubles and ambivalent images with the purpose of illustrating the heuristic and transforming forces of O＇Connor＇s grotesque.
