Jinghua Houyuan,a sequel to The Marriage of Flowers in the Mirror, was serialized in Singapore's Chinese newspaper The Sun-Poo(Xingzhou Chenbao星洲晨报) from Jan 1910 to June 1910.The rediscovery of this rare and unfinished sequel is significant as it is unknown to most of the contemporary readership and researchers. From the perspective of genre,The Marriage of Flowers in the Mirror and its re-writings including Jinghua Houyuan follows a certain pattern of creation, focusing on gender and gender as their major theme. This paper briefly narrates the contents of Jinghua Houyuan and compares it with the themes of other sequel intertextualties.Analyzing the author's intention to create a harmonious society with gender equality regardless of race, the paper sees the text, like many other The Marriage of Flowers in the Mirror's sequels,as an example of ideal fiction, falling into the sub-genre of women's Utopia. This paper also recognizes that the awareness and construction of such sub-genre in Chinese fiction was completed a century ago.The first three chapters of American contemporary writer Maxine Hong's China Men are an extension of this sub-genre,which crosses language and regional boundaries.
