This paper discusses the network system management function in DECnet and it in- dudes six components:node,module,circuit,line,object,logging.By the use of Network Control Program(NCP)to monitor,manage and control network.NCP are subsequently used to modify the database. The configuration databasc of a node contains parameters of internal network value that havc a significant impact on the operation and performance of network.These values are of two types:characteristics and status parameters. On the basis of the practice of building and safeguarding network,the paper searches DECnet—VAX8530 network system configuration,network topology structure.It focuses the discussion on configuration(permannent database and volatile database)of host node and DECserver node and how we start network.
