Time Stepping Along Characteristics for Finite Element of Two Dimensional Transport of Solution in Porous Media

A two dimensional transport equation describing the dispersion and adsorption of chemistry in a solution flowing through a porous medium can be solved by the finite element method of characteristics. Optimal order estimates in H 1 are derived for the errrors in the approximation solution for this method. The results obtained are valuable in many fields of practical interests such as surfactant and pollution of ground warer.
