; Barium benzoate was synthesized in semisolid phase reaction. The
complex was characterized by elemental analysis, IR, Xray powder diffraction. It is layered
structure, monoclinic system. The mechanism of thermal decomposition for barium benzoate
was studied by using TG, DTA, IR and gas chromatographymass spectrometer. The thermal
decompositon of barium benzoate in nitrogen proceeded in one stage: it decomposed to form
BaCO\-3 and organic compounds. The organic compounds obtained from decomposition
reaction are mainly benzophenone, triphenylmethane and so on.\=\;
