Humor is a kind of funny and pleasant sentiment,widespread among the Chinese and Western languages.Verbal humors are generally refined,subtle,witty and pleasant,whose use and understanding are inseparable from its close contact with the culture.Through an analysis of a large number of examples,we can see the differences in the Chinese and Western verbal humors are mainly in its purposes,forms,objects and contents,and the causes of such differences can be found in the social-historical backgrounds,religious influences,individualism and collectivism and senses of hierarchy.An exploration and study of the Chinese and Western verbal humors can favorably promote the cultural exchanges between the two sides.
