Shakespeare studies in China have believed that Hamlet is a Humanist.It is not until the 1980s that people began to question it and proposed that Hamlet is not a humanist.However,the problem has not thereby been solved as to what ＂-ist＂ Hamlet is and under what influence Hamlet is characterized.A close reading can easily reveal that Hamlet is a Platonist,a paradigm of Plato＇s political philosophy embodied in ＂philosopher king＂,and that ＂Shakespeare did read Plato＂.
