Objective A current technology for detecting and controlling transient noises in hearing aids(AntiShockTM) was evaluated regarding its effects on the listening comfort..Methods Twenty-four subjects with sensorineural hearing loss participated in the study. In a single-blinded paradigm, the subjects were asked to rate benefits of listening comfort to listen to mandarin speech under the conditions of the on and off of the AntiShockTM.Results ①Statistics showed that odds of rating "somewhat helpful" or better was not significantly higher than chance level for speech intensity at 55 dB SPL.However, significant odds of rating "somewhat helpful" or better were obtained for the speech intensity of 70 dB SPL.②Under all the listening conditions, the AntiShockTM was ranked as not helpful at all, somewhat helpful, helpful and very helpful at 35.9%,19.8%,31.5% and 12.8%,respectively.③Under the listening conditions of speech and transient, the AntiShockTM was ranked as not helpful at all, somewhat helpful, helpful and very helpful at 34.4%,19.3%,33.3% and 13.0%,respectively.④Under the listening condition of speech, environmental noise and transient, the AntiShockTM was ranked as not helpful at all, somewhat helpful, helpful and very helpful at 37.7%,20.4%,29.3% and 12.6%,respectively.Conclusion The majority of thesubjects noted the algorithm to "helpful" in laboratory evaluation.
