The study of religion and ecology is emerging as a new dlsclphne ot the social sciences ana numatites. Its spirit lies in its willingness to explore indigenous ecological worldviews. By focusing on Tibetan belief systems and ecological perspectives, this article is intended to illustrate the complex reciprocal saturation of human communities, spirits/gods, Buddha Dharma, and natural landscape marked with religious significance, especially mountains. As a dialogue with other scholarly works, this article poses two arguments. One is that the ecological value of Tibetan sacred sites is not always transcendental but rather inter-sentient horizontally connecting reli- gious elders, common people, local spirits, and natural landscape. Another is that religious rituals produce tangible ecological effects in which native Tibetans play a regulatory role in maintaining the equilibrium of their living environment.
