摘要
本文通过追溯“河”与“江”两字的起源、中华文化的发祥、发展，说明“河”字在中华文化表达中作为主流文化，即官音，而存在；通过追溯中国地名翻译的起始与发展，说明英语译成汉语时，用“河”字翻译所有外国的河流。这就是为什么外国无“江”了。
This paper traces to the source of Chinese letters ＂河＂ and ＂江＂ , the beginning and developing of Chinese culture to state that ＂河＂ stands for the main stream culture, that is official language, in Chinese; through tracing the history of translating English place names into Chinese to state that in translating river into Chinese ＂河＂. That′s why there are no foreign ＂江＂ in Chinese .
