Pragmatic Function of the Elliptical Sentences and E-C Translation Methods for EST Texts

科技文章句式的使用有其自身的特点,而省略现象在科技英语中的语用功能不容忽视。采用实证研究的方法,在大量语料基础上概括出省略句式的四项语用功能,即语篇简洁、语篇的衔接与连贯、信息焦点凸显和信息焦点对比,并就科技英语文体中省略句的翻译技巧进行研究。

EST（English for Science and Technology） has been of great features owing to its special variety of sentence patterns.The pragmatic function of ellipsis in EST on sentence level is of great significance.Based on the data collection,this paper will study a self-established corpus of technical writings,and further analysis shows that four pragmatic functions（conciseness/coherence/emphasis/contrast） of the elliptical sentences.Understanding the pragmatic functions of elliptical sentences is an effective way to improve the E-C translation of EST.
