Introducing Roland Barthes and Jean Baudrillard' s writings on the Eiffel Tower and the Pompidou Center in Paris, this paper provides a comparative perspective on the memory of the Shanghai Expo architecture and its cultural implications.A huge loss in Chinese urbanism is the eradication of urban memory and emotional architecture.A city is not a temporary exhibition of reckless signage buildings. The urban culture depends upon the consistent creation of human space where humanity is immediately lived through theatrical views.
