今世惟民主为正——《新民丛报》用自由批判专制的思考

Democracy Is the Only Way——From the Perspective of Miscellany for New Citizens Criticizing Autarchy Through Freedom

西方列强的入侵惊醒中国人民美好的太平梦,有数千年文明史的古老民族在英人坚船利炮的攻击下战败,中国逐渐沦为半殖民地半封建社会。中国仁人志士逐渐地认识到中国腐败的根源在于专制政体。梁启超说:"专制政体者,实数千年来破家亡国之总根原也。"《新民丛报》学人拿起了"自由"这面旗帜,启发国人同君主专制政体相搏以争取个人自由和公民权利,并且深刻地认识到"今世惟民主为正"。

A beautiful peaceful dream was awakened by invasion of the Western powerful countries,Chinese people of civilization of thousands of years were defeated by the British.Chinese society had gradually been a Semi-colonial and semi-feudal society.Chinese people realized that the source of corruption was authoritarian regime in China.Liang Qichao said that absolute monarchy was the basic reason of laggard in China.Authors of Miscellany for New Citizens took up the flag of freedom to inspire people to realize their personal freedom and civil rights.They believed that democracy was the only way.
