A tentative research on the birth year of Liu Xie

刘勰生年,学界众说纷纭,尚无定论。通过挖掘史料并运用内证外证相结合的方式辨析稽考,刘勰当生于南朝宋后废帝元徽元年(473年)。

The birth year of Liu Xie has great significance for studying Liu Xie and his works.This research probes into Liu Xie＇s birth year by studying various historical documents and materials with the combination of internal and external evidences.It is discovered that Liu Xie was born in January of 473,the first year of Yuan Hui＇s reign in the Southern Dynasty.
