This article presents a detailed analysis of zhǐ by using cognitive language theory with the focus on the complicated semantics of the Chinese word in the context,which is believed to have resulted from subjective factors.As a matter of fact,the Chinese word has only one basic meaning,namely,pointing to one and excluding all the others.
