On Chinese and English Cognitive Models of the Concept of Failure——From the Perspectives of Chinese and English Idioms

语言、思维和文化三者相互交融,相互影响。语言是思维的形式,思维制约着语言的产生,而两者都根植于文化。文化元素不同,民族间的思维模式也不尽相同。熟语印记着人类认知事物的思维轨迹。因此,对比汉英熟语可以揭示这两个民族的认知思维模式。在文化背景下审视,更能充分挖掘其异同的成因。

Language,thinking and culture are interconnected and interact with one another.Language is the form of thinking.Thinking restrains the productivity of language.However,both of them are rooted in culture.Owing to different cultural elements,the cognitive models of different nationalities are not always the same.Idioms memorize the thinking traces of human beings＇ knowing things.Therefore,comparing Chinese and English idioms can disclose the cognitive thinking models of the two groups;and the close examining in the visual threshold of culture can excavate the causes of similarities and differences.
