On the Reliability of Communication Networks——A Review

在通信网的设计和维护过程中,网络可靠性是一项重要的性能指标,目前这一课题已逐步引起人们的高度重视。本文综述了迄今为止在通信网可靠性研究领域里所取得的成果,在叙述过程中将重点介绍网络可靠性的测度及其数学模型,基本上不涉及网络算法。文章把通信网可靠性的研究成果归纳为四类:1.网络的抗毀性——可靠性的确定测度;2.网络的生存性——基于网络连通性的可靠性测度;3.网络的有效性——基于网络业务性能的可靠性测度;4.网络部件工作在多模式状态的可靠性测度。同时,本文提出了一个通信网可靠性的定义,以澄清目前在这个问题上的混乱,进而归纳了影响网络可靠性的因素,给出了分析通信网可靠性的一般方法,探讨了今后通信网可靠性的研究方向。

Network reliablity is an important performance criterion in communication network design and maintainance. At present, this problem has been emphasized more and more. In this paper, a comprehensive review of researches on communication network reliability is presented. The reliability criteria of communication networks are addressed and from these criteria the mathematical models of network reliability are introduced, but the detailed discussion on the algorithms of network reliability is alleviated. First, a suggestion on the definition of communication network reliability is given to clarify the confusion in recent research on this topic. Then, the recent achievements are classified into four categories, i. e., the network vulnerability which is connected with the deterministic criteria of network reliability, the network survivability which concerns with the connectedness-based criteria of network reliability, the network availability which is related to the traffic-based criteria of network reliability, and the fourth is about the reliability criteria of communication networks with multimode components. The factors influencing the reliability of communication networks are discussed. The general methods for analyzing communication network reliability are given. Finally, the future research directions on the reliability of communication networks are indicated.
