约翰·斯坦贝克发表于1939年的代表作《愤怒的葡萄》是20世纪美国文学史上有特殊意义的一部作品,小说描写了俄克拉何马州佃农乔德一家和成千上万的穷苦农民一样由于连年干旱以及银行和大企业的压迫,不得不背井离乡到加利福尼亚寻找生计的故事。运用生态批评的理论分析《愤怒的葡萄》,可以挖掘出生态灾难背后的思想根源,从而批判西方人类中心主义,探究人与自然的和谐及人与人之间的和谐,也反映出斯坦贝克的生态思想对当今世界的和谐进步和可持续发展的重要意义。
John Steinbeck's masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath,which was published in 1939,is a piece of work with special meaning in American literature.The novel describes the desperate plight of the Joads,an "Okie" family,joining hundreds of thousands of farm families moving to California due to successive years of drought,as well as the oppression of banks and large enterprises.The thesis analyzes the novel from the perspective of ecocriticism to explore the thought root of ecological disasters,to attack western Anthropocentrism and to promote harmonious relationship between man and nature,between man and man.The Grapes of Wrath reflects the ecological thought of John Steinbeck,which is meaningful for the sustainable development and harmonious relationship of mankind.
