Through analyzing the research and teaching activities at Johns Hopkins University and Princeton University, the paper has studied the American higher education system. The organization, supervising style of PhD students, library work, promotion mechanism, integrity and ethical standard, construction of academic environment, and so on at top US universities are introduced. Through comparing the US and Chinese higher education systems, some useful suggestions are given.
