Tagore's Visit to China:Criticism from Opponents

1924年泰戈尔访华期间,曾在中国文化界引发了激烈论争并出现强力抵制,反对派的中坚人物陈独秀、沈雁冰、郭沫若等人却又是我国最早翻译泰戈尔作品、推介泰戈尔思想、追踪泰戈尔行踪的学者。泰戈尔主要在北京的文化界活动,抵制和批判的文章却多刊载于上海的政治性杂志。反对者的部分文章偏离实事,凭空杜撰。对此一事件的研究和评价亦多有舛误。对上述内容进行实证性的梳理,以期对一些认识偏失作出辨正。

Tagore＇s visit to China in 1924 triggered heated debates in China＇s cultural circles and strong boycotts emerged.Among the key opponents were such prominent figures as Chen Duxiu,Shen Yanbin,and Guo Morou,who were actually the earliest Chinese scholars translating Tagore＇s works,introducing and promoting his thoughts,and following his path.Most of Tagore＇s activities in China took place in the cultural circles in Beijing,while most boycotting and critical articles were published in the political magazines in Shanghai.Part of the opponents＇ articles deviated from facts or literally fabricated.Besides,there were a number of mistakes in the researches and comments on this event.So,the paper is intended to draw a whole picture of all the contents mentioned with solid evidence with the view to identifying and correcting the mistakes.
