The Vietnamese community is a new community in Japan which is gradually formed as a result of the Indochinese refugee wave. The acceptance of Indochinese refugees sets the first example of large-scale acceptance of foreign refugees by Japan in the postwar era.Japan has carried out various measures,in order to make the Vietnamese refugees better adjust to their lives in the new environment.Nowadays, there has been quite a stable Vietnamese community in Japan. However, their social statuses are generally not high. This is not only due to the special features of the refugees themselves, but also is because of the enclosed and negative attitude of Japan toward foreigners which has caused several defects of the refugee policies.Along with the continuous adaptation to the Japanese society,it is expected that the distance between the Vietnamese community and the mainstream society of Japan will get closer in future.
