Metonymy and Discourse Coherence

转喻是人类基本的认知方式之一,是在同一认知域内用一个范畴激活另一个范畴的映现过程,以邻近性为基础。转喻思维存在于语篇的生成和理解过程中,转喻关系可以影响语篇表层理解中指称、替代和省略的衔接关系,也可作用于语篇深层次理解心理表征的认知机制,对语篇连贯的建构起着重要作用。

Metonymy,one of the fundamental cognitive styles of human beings,is a mapping process of employing one domain activating another based on proximity within the same cognitive domain.The metonymy thinking exists in the generation and comprehension process of the discourse,and the metonymy relations may well influence the linking relationships concerning referring,substitutes,omissions in surface comprehension of the text,and it can also be applied to in-depth understand the cognitive mechanism of the psychological representation,which plays an important role in the construction of discourse coherence.
