Three-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl trimethylammonium chloride（CHPTMAC）,a cationic etherifying agent,is an important cationic monomer in modifying starch,cellulose and the other natural polymers.It is prepared by the reaction of tertiary amine or tertiary amine salt with epichlorohydrin（ECH）.This article describes the methods of its synthesis,purification and impurity detection.
