Statins are a group of typical and high-efficiency hypolipidemic agents that protect kidneys mainly through reducing serum cholesterol.An increasing number of studies show that statins have multiple renoprotective effects independent of hypolipidemic effects.Such effects manifest as enhancement of renal microvessels,improvement of vascular endothelial function,inhibition of inflammatory response,and delay of renal fibrosis.The understanding of statins renal protection and underlying mechanisms of action is clinically significant for the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases.
