Viewing Ancient Funeral Culture from Chinese Characters

汉字是表意体系的文字,蕴含着包括丧葬文化在内的丰富的文化信息。通过考释"丧"、"葬"等相关汉字,从死亡称谓、丧葬方式及丧葬习俗三个方面,透视了我国古代丧葬文化的根源及其对维护社会伦理道德和阶级统治所具有的重要作用。

Chinese characters belong to ideographic system and carry abundant cultural meanings including funeral culture.By analyzing Chinese characters as ＂Sang＂、＂Zang＂ etc.,this paper discusses the roots of Chinese ancient funeral culture and its significant roles in maintaining the social ethic and class rule from three aspects：appellation for death;ways of funeral and funeral customs.
