Objective We explored the impact of radiofrequency catheter ablation(RFCA) on quality of life in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods There were 70 patients who had undergone successful RFCA. The world popular Short-Form 36 ( SF-36 ) was used to evaluate the quality of life in these patients. The data were collected in the evening before RFCA, and evaluated in 1 month,3 months and 6 months after ablation. A total of 66 patients who completed follow-up were divided into 2 groups,54 patients succeed group and 12 patients recurred group. Results There were significant improvement in the following SF-36 measures in succeed group (P 〈 0. 05 )including physical component score, physical functioning, role limitations due to physical health problems, social functioning, role limitations due to emotional health problems and mental health, vitality. Bodily pain, mental component score and general health perceptions did not change significantly ( P 〉 0. 05). There were no significant improvement in recurred group. Conclusion Successful catheter ablation could significantly improve early quality of life in the patients with artrial fibrillation.
