Diversity and Hybridity:Characterization of Chinese-Australians in Contemporary Australian Literature

本文通过对四部当代澳大利亚文学作品——《漂泊者》、《祖先游戏》、《追踪中国》和《浮生》的研究,探讨从"淘金"时代到20世纪末华人形象的转变,分析日呈多元化、具体化的华人形象,展现他们经受中西方文化的碰撞与融合,挑战并颠覆霸权话语,建构杂合的文化身份,在澳大利亚社会找到立足之地并不断发展的奋斗历程。

This thesis examines the characterization of Chinese -Australians through the ＂gold rushes＂ to the late 20th century, presenting the diverse images of Chinese in such contemporary Australian fiction and film as Birds of Passage, The Ancestor Game ,After China, and Floating Life. It explores how the Chinese -Australians, after undergoing clashes and integration of home and host cultures,challenge and subvert the hegemonic discourse and construct their cultural identity in Australian society.
