Objective: To explore the affect of gastrointestinal digestive Radix Polygalae and Magnolia. Methods : Collecting rat gastric juice with pylorus ligation method. To detect the gastric contents and gastric acid of Polygala and Magnolia both single product and the compatibility group secretions and enzymes activities made from the compatibility between of 1:1,1:2,1:3.To detect the affect of drug-treated rats pepsin, trypsin and others by spectrophotometry. Results: ① Single Polygala group could significantly reduce the secretion of gastric juice, decreased gastric acidity, and inhibit the activity of pepsin, but trypsin activity was not significant.② Compared with the Polygala group, single Magnolia Group, the compatibility group of 1:2 between Magnolia and Polygala could significantly increase the secretion of gastric juice, increased gastric acidity.Among them, the compatibility group of 1:2,1:3 increased trypsin activity of the trend, but no significant difference.③Single Magnolia, magnolia officinalis and Polygala compatibility groups could significantly inhibit the pepsin activity. Conclusion: Single Polygala digestive function was significantly inhibited, but compatibility with Magnolia, especially twice in Polygala(Polygalaceae and Magnolia officinalis that volume ratio of 1:2),could significantly reduce the inhibition of Polygala digestion. These results suggest that, for the protection of digestive function, the clinical use of Polygala, appropriate compatibility with the two times of Magnolia.
