Confucius’ Notion of Reward

在许多人心目中，孔子大概就是一个满口仁义说教、耻于乃至反对言利的所谓圣人。这实在是对孔子的一种偏见。孔子不是道学家，他期望人们重视提高道德修养，但他从未想过也不曾为人们竖起难以跨越的标杆。他的道德期求总是以大众不难接受和易于做到为尺度，或者说，他希望人们做的，无非就是于己无损而又有利于人的好事。

In the mind of many people, Confucius was a so-called sage who ,only proposed benevolence andopposed courting fame and fortune. This, in fact, is a kind of prejudice against Confucius. What he advocated was that people should do things that were not harmful to themselves and could be helpful to others. From Confucius＇ comments on what happened to two of his students, we can learn this.
