Spivak's postcolonial criticism attempts to disclose the operation of ideology by re-reading and re-examining the Western canon. It also attempts to discover the significance of the resistance in Western classic texts rewritten by postcolonial writers. It focuses on the oppression of the modern national state discourse on non-mainstream groups in the writings by postcolonial indigenous writers.Spivak differs from other postcolonial critics in that her research not only discloses the ideological hegemony of the Western classics but also reveals the oppressive colonial and inner-colonial discourses of the writings by indigenous postcolonial writers.
