Classroom activities in College Oral English center mainly on topics,so topics are the center of classroom talk,discussion and debate.The choice and design of topics is one of the important factors that affect classroom teaching effects of college oral English.This paper first expounds the important role that the choice and design of topics play in college oral English teaching,and then exemplifies the five principles in choosing and designing topics in college oral English teaching by referring to the textbooks ＂Inside Out＂： the principles of relevance,appropriateness,consistency,openness and timeliness.
