自1970年代末、80年代初开始,在国内外政治、经济环境变动背景下,中国知识界经历了一系列思想大分化,形成了新左派和自由主义两大思潮。两大思潮于1990年代中后期开始的论争更是近年来知识界内部一次少有的交锋,引起了国内外学术界的广泛关注。由于中国新左派和自由主义在思想渊源上的分歧和对立,导致两派对现实中国的一些重大政治、经济、社会和文化问题的认识存在激烈的争论。

Since the late 70s and early 80s of the 20th century,with the changes in the domestic and international polity and economy,the intellects experienced a series of divisions in China,resulting to the appearance of New Left and Liberalism.The debate between the two began in the mid-90s of the 20th century,which was an infrequent argument within the intellectuals in recent years,caused widespread concern in academic circles at home and abroad.Because of the differences and antagonism in the origin of theories,there was heated debate between the two on the major political,economic,social and cultural issues in China.
