摘要 Mary Shelly's representative work Frankenstein has spawned innumerable interpretations since its first publication in 1818.This thesis explores Mary Shelly's motivation of creating the monster.Mary Shelly's "hideous progeny" to some degree is her "shadow" and dark double.Meanwhile,the monster image implies the dilemma of female writing in patriarchal society.
