摘要
在＂现代化＂及＂现代性＂的世界大背景下,清华百年历史与现代中国的关系常常是互为表里、交相映衬记得我刚来清华执教之际,曾望文生义地把＂清华＂之名理解为＂清朝＂与＂中华＂的相加,后来我才知道＂清华＂之名出自晋朝诗人谢混的《游西池》诗中＂水木湛清华＂。我的这种＂解释错误＂,多少说明了我心目中的清华与清朝之间的特殊关系。
Tsinghua University was officially established on April 29,1911.As many of you know this year was a landmark one in Chinese history,as it marked the end of 2000 years of Imperial control of China,and allowed China to become one of the first countries in Asia to move towards becoming a republic.It also marked the beginning for Chinese politics,education and spirit to move into modernity. When we think of key words like＂modernity＂and＂modernization＂,we can not help but think of Tsinghua University＇s role in establishing a modern China.
