间隔号用法的发展和统一:“专名化”与“均衡美”

间隔号是标号的一种,从1996年正式纳入国家标准的标点符号系统以来,从主要表示外国人名或某些少数民族人名内各部分的分界和书名与篇(章、卷)名之间的分界,已经发展出很多新的用法。那么,新旧用法是否毫不相关?如何更有效地概括间隔号的特点?对此,我们提出了间隔号使用新规范的问题。

The separation dot, as one type of the punctuations, was introduced into China National Standard System of Punctuations since 1996. It has been mainly used as the division mark between given names and surnames of the Western or Chinese minorities＇ names, as well as the boundaries between book titles and chapters. But in actual punctuating practice, its usage has been expanded. Whether the new usages are completely irrelevant to the old ones or bow to summarize the features of separation dot are questions that merit special attention. We call for a standardization of separation dot use.
