Sustainable Urbanization in the Perspective of Civilization

当前,中国的可持续城市化正面临挑战,如资源约束、空气污染等。从人类城市变迁的四种模式:"商业模式"、"工业模式"、"生态模式"和"文明模式",可以发现文明城市作为中国可持续城市化新模式的历史逻辑。在比较分析"A模式"、"B模式"、"C模式"基础上,将文明城市界定为"W模式"——可持续城市化的新模式。这种新模式具有的特质:形态文明、功能文明与素质文明的统一;物质文明、政治文明、精神文明与生态文明的统一。文明城市测评体系是综合考核可持续城市化绩效的系统模型。

At present, China＇ s sustainable urbanization confronts such challenges as resource limit, air pollution, population explosion, capital-driven development, urbanrural divide, planning and public space deficiency, etc. From the trajectory of city models of commercial city, industrial city, eco-city and civilized city, we can see the historical logic in identifying civilized city as a new model for China＇ s sustainable urbanization. This new model, based on comparatively studying A Model, B Model and C Model, is defined as W Model. The W Model features the unity of civilizations in appearance, function and quality; and features the unity of civilizations in materials, politics, spirit and ecosystem. The Civilized City Measurement System is a systematic model to evaluate and measure a city＇ s performance in sustainable urbanization.
