摘要
通信和存储技术的发展使得视频点播（ＶＯＤ）成为可能。大规模的ＶＯＤ系统对用户和服务提供者都颇具吸引力。但连续媒体对带宽和容量的巨大需求成为走向市场的一个障碍。
Recent advances in computing and communication technologies have made VOD(Video on Demand)technically feasible.Large scale VOD systems are attractive for end users as well as service providers.However,excessive bandwidth and space requirement of continuous media data have been a serious impediment for its wide use in commercial entertainment market.We propose a distributed hierarchical architecture as a solution to large scale VOD service in a cost effective fashion.
