Language and Thought——Reflection on the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis

文章通过对萨丕尔-沃尔夫假说及来自哲学与心理学方面关于该假说的不同解释的进一步分析,指出该假说令人费解的部分以及许多语言学家对其的误解,在此基础上,提出更合理的解释。同时,试图探究关于说话者的语言影响其思维方式这一语言相对性假说(lingu istic relativity—LR)。

By analyzing the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis and its various versions of explanations from philosophical and psychological perspective,the author points out the difficulty in understanding the hypothesis and the misunderstanding of many linguists.The paper proposes a more reasonable explanation.Meanwhile,the author tries to explore the linguistic relativity（LR）,concerning that the language a speaker uses influences the way the speaker thinks.
