中外“姑娘”,各显风姿——《红楼梦》两英译本中“姑娘”的翻译探析

An Analysis of Different Translations "Guniang" in A Dream of Red Mansions

《红楼梦》中,"姑娘"一词出现了一千多处,然而其所指称或表示的含义却不尽相同,本文对此进行了具体的分析和归类,并在与《红楼梦》的两种英译本,即Hawks和杨宪益对该词的翻译比较的基础上,探讨中西方由于文化背景和风俗传统不同而引起的称谓差异,以及此差异所暗含的人物间的身份和社会地位的不同。

In A Dream of Red Mansions（The Story of the Stone）,one of the four classic literatures,the word guniang in Chinese,appears more than a thousand times,which represents different meanings or connotations.This paper analyzes and classifies its meaning concretely,meanwhile,its translations in two versions are analyzed in order to compare the variations of this addressing word in terms of different cultural background,customs and traditions between Chinese and western world,which imply characters＇ different social status in this novel.
