Through explanation of the two translating methods--domestication and foreignization, comparing the two English translations--＂A Dream of Red Mansions＂ from Yang Xian-yi and ＂The Story of the Stone＂ from David Hawkes, the readers come to the conclusion that the two translating methods--domestication and foreignization are not incompatible and they work together in any translation. Translators should find the best balancing point between the author and readers from the perspectives of culture and language to create an accurate and fluent work in unity of form and spirit.
