焦循的戏曲理论著作《花部农谭》、《剧说》,尤为赞赏花部戏曲的重要价值,在中国戏曲批评史上产生了重要影响。焦循认为戏曲应具有示范作用,应重视观赏与演出紧密结合,并能同诗歌一样"言志",而某些优秀的花部戏曲确实符合他的审美标准。

Jiao Xung two books on opera theories, namely, Huabu Nongtan and Ju Shuo, have had a far- reaching impact on Chinese opera criticism. He believed that operas played an exemplary role, and that the performance should be tightly combined with the audience＇s appreciation. He also maintained that operas could give expression to ＂ ideals＂ as poetu did, and some Hua troupe operas were really in conformity with his aesthetic standards.
