The Guli Xintan, written by Prof. Chen Meidong, is the most completeand profound book on the history of Chinese calendars so far. In his book Prof. Chenexplores a large number of astronomical constants and tables, and unknown algorithmsof numerical method invented by calendar-makers of ancient and rnedieval China, thusgreatly enriching our knowledge of the exact science of China. His book is another monu-ment after Prof. Yabuuchi Kiyosi in the field of history of mathematical astronomy ofChina.
