Culture as the Core of Local Records Compilation

文化概念的外延和内涵给我们编纂志书带来一些困惑。从广义的文化概念审视志书,志书记述了各种文化现象,如建置文化、人口文化、生育文化、物态文化、政治文化、经济文化及精神文化。从文化要素方面分析志书文化层次的构成,可以看出志书记载一地社会的方方面面,同时也记载不同时期的文化,反映不同时期文化的继承、积累与创新。志书保存史料,实际是保存这一代人的文化活动,保存这一个社会的文化特征。所以说编纂志书就是编纂文化,文化是志书编纂的核心。

The extension and intention of the concept of culture has brought about some puzzles for the compilation of local records.If we inspect local records through the concept of culture in its broad sense,local records take note of various cultural phenomena,such as administrative culture,population culture,birth and nurture culture,material culture,political culture,economic culture and spiritual culture.This article analyzes the constitution of cultural levels in local records from the angle of essential cultural elements,and points out the fact that local records not only register the various facets of society in a certain place,but also register the culture in different periods and reflect the inheritance,accumulation,and innovation of culture in different periods.When we say local records save historical materials,we are actually taking about the saving of cultural activities of this generation,and the saving of cultural features of this society.Therefore we say the compilation of local records is the compilation of culture,and culture is the core of local records compilation.
