摘要
文章根据2004年的美国全国高等院校教师的统计数据,比较分析了美国高等院校外语教师和其他专业教师在学历、收入、学术级别、职业满意度等几个方面的数据。根据数据结果分析,文章认为美国高等外语学科的发展、联邦政府的外语教育政策及美国外语专业协会所发挥的功能是美国高校外语教师职业状况形成的主要因素。可以借鉴美国的做法来促进我国高校外语教师的职业发展。
By comparing the foreign language faculty with other faculty in American four-year colleges and universities in term of highest degree, rank, salary and job satisfaction based on the data of NSOPF04, the paper studies the academic career condition of foreign language faculty. It shows that foreign language faculty is in an inferior position in terms of rank and salary, but enjoys higher job satisfaction. Three possible reasons are offered to explain this mixed result and recommend that foreign language circle in China should learn from America to promote faculty's academic career development.
