The Changjiang Delta is the most important economic belt and metropolitan area in China.It plays an overwhelmingly significant role in the overall development of the Chinese economy.The functional orientation of the Changjiang Delta affects not only how achieve the regional development goals are achieved,but also the overall development of the Chinese economy.From perspectives of both regional and world economic structures,this paper analyzes issues related to the functional orientation of the Changjiang Delta,with Shanghai at its core,and provides strategic ideas on major issues such as building a center for advanced manufacturing industry and modern service sectors,and constructing a world-class metropolitan area in the Changjiang Delta.
