The distinctive visions in Toni Morrison's Jazz and Tony Kade Bambara's The Salt Eaters constitute alternate sociopolitical paradigms of the African American community in the final decades of the 20th century.By questioning the ways of identity construction and exploring the past and looking forward to the future,Morrison wants her people to liberate themselves from the bonds of the past and participate in unlimited choices, while Bambara believes that the only choice is to bear the burden of histroy, and construct one's identity in the process of collective creation.
